CAE Assignment
From Ms. Simpas:
here’s the homestudy program fro CAE III. please pass to as many 3rd year students as possible. Although i can’t seem to insert the tables and graphics, that’s why there are blanks. please get a copy from your vice-president too. thanks!
For CAE III, you are expected to come up with your very own PIGGY Portfolio! Aptly named after the A(H1N1) virus, it will be a compilation of 3-4 activities that we were supposed to take up had we been in school.
A. The first page of your piggy portfolio will be about ballads. If you recall, a ballad is a narrative poem that tells stories of everyday life. Read all about it on pp. 18-21 of your violet / purple books. There are three ballads there. Two are about love or love lost, while the last one is about an everyday occurrence.
Activity: Choose one of the three ballads, and explain what you think its story is about. Since ballads are still around today (they are more popularly known as love songs), choose a modern ballad and like the ballads of old English literature, also explain what you think the story is about.
Suggestion: to save on paper, space, and ink, you can write the two ballads together on recycled bond paper. It would look like this:
Like what?
---------------------------------------------------
B. The next page of the portfolio will take us to the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Try to Google the complete version of the story since what we have in pp. 25-27 of our violet / purple books is only on The Death of Arthur. During the medieval times, the idea of King Arthur came about because of a lack of leadership among the noblemen. Therefore King Arthur is the epitome of good leadership, with the Excalibur as the symbol of all that is just and fair, and Camelot as the ideal kingdom where peace and harmony reigns.
Activity: On another piece of recycled bond paper, draw or illustrate what you think good leadership is all about. Describe your drawing / illustration and explain how it was inspired by the legend of King Arthur and how it can be connected to the type of leadership you think our country will need in the upcoming 2010 elections.
C. The next activity takes us to the time of Geoffrey Chaucer. With his work, the Canterbury Tales, he was able to give us an idea on how life was during the Medieval Ages. Due to his writing, he is known as the Father of English Literature. A short description and excerpt is found on pp. 29-30 of the violet / purple book. Google all about the other pilgrims and their stories.
Activity: They said that the Canterbury Tales gives us a good cross-section of English medieval society. On a piece of recycled bond paper, make 3 charts comparing 3 characters of the Canterbury Tales to 3 who you think are their counterparts in the type of people we have today. You can choose to compare them to a specific person or to a group of people. Look into their social status and possible lifestyle.
Suggestion: One of the three charts can look like this:
#1 Medieval Modern
Character The Wife of Bath vs A social butterfly / a specific person like Imelda Marcos
Social status Nobility Upper class
Lifestyle Became rich by marrying several times. Spends her time looking for the next husband… Became rich by marrying into a rich family. Tries to fit in by….
D. The last part of your piggy portfolio will be about grammar. From sentences last week, we will now go into phrases and clauses. Remember that both phrases and clauses are groups of words with an incomplete thought. The only difference is that clauses are made up of a subject and a verb. Read the different classifications on pp. 12-15 of your brown books (Linking).
Activity: On recycled bond paper, create your own sentences using the different types of phrases and clauses. Since there are 9 kinds in all, then there should be 9 sentences. Kindly underline the phrase or clause used.
For example:
1) Prepositional phrase –
I wrote my assignment on a piece of bond paper.
That covers our lessons for the week. You can add a personal touch to your portfolios by designing your own cover page. No need to put it in a folder. Enjoy making your very own PIGGY Portfolios! See you next week!

11.10
It's 11.10 and there's still no sign of Vina's call. -_-
The only people awake (or replying, to make more sense) are Ycay and myself.
Vina! I'm waiting for your call!
Waiting for your call I'm sick, call I'm angry, call I'm desperate for your voice.
Joke.
C'mon, Vina. Call me. Call us.
I'll be staying wide awake waiting for my phone to ring.

I just noticed. Lenka's song, "Don't let me fall", sounds like a different version. It's...weird. Okaaay. I don't like it. But naaaaah, who cares?! It's not like people would stay here for the music.
Mom wants me to stop using the laptop already.
M: Enough na.
C: Okay, okay. *stays in front of the laptop for 2 more hours*
This happens everyday.
I'm waiting for a phonecall.
We're going to have a conference call again tonight.
But that's not until 11 pm.
I can't wait.
It's Micha's birthday tomorrow!
Happy birthday, Meechaaaa! :D
We've (Hannah and I) got a surprise for you!

Sick
The MEDIA is sick.
Sick, sick media.
Poor you.
You never get well, anyway.
Don't join the media.
You'd get a sickness that'd last forever.
There's no cure.
There will never be.

Gives You Hell
Another great song by All - American Rejects
Gives You Hell
I wake up every evening, with a big smile on my face
And it never feels out of place
And your still probably working at a 9 to 5 pace
I wonder how bad that tastes
When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
Now wheres you picket fence love
And wheres that shiny car,
And did it ever get you far
You've never seem so tense love
I've never seen you fall so hard,
Do you know where you are
And truth be told I miss you
And truth be told I'm lying
When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
If you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, your just as well, hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
Tomorrow you'll be thinking to yourself
Where'd it all go wrong, the list goes on and on
And truth be told I miss you
And truth be told I'm lying
When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
If you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, your just as well, hope it gives you hell
Now you'll never see, what you've done to me
You can take back your memories they're no good to me
And here's all your lies,
You can look me in my eyes
With that sad sad look that you wear so well
When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
If you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, your just as well, hope it gives you hell
When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell

When you hear this song and sing along oh you'll never tell
Then you're the fool, I'm just as well

Weird, I know.
I hate it when I post my url in Friendster and people start reading my blogs.
"Then why did you post your url there in the first place?"
I knew it. I knew you were gonna ask that.
So, obviously, I have to answer.
A blog is a blog. It's stupid not to share your blog.
It gets dull when you're the only one reading it.
So, this is my message to all who read this: I used to blog for myself, as you have noticed in some of my previous blogs. If you know you're wasting ATP, stop reading. Click the red X button at the title bar. There'd be a high risk you'd be astigmatic reading these things, like me.
Thank you.

MJ
Okay, so everyone's fussing about the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
I honestly don't like him. No offense, Coleen. HA-HA!
But seriously, it was his fault he died. So we know who's to blame.
I'm sad for Coleen, not for MJ.
I wish another Michael died, not Michael Jackson.
JOKE. Basi mabasahan niya ni!
JOKE LANG KUNG MABASAHAN MO NI OR SANG FRIENDS MO.

Proof that we don't need math in life
WE DON'T NEED MATH IN LIFE.
I'VE GOT PROOF:
Life is NOT like Math.
Don't divide your problems by zero. You'll end up in an undefined situation.
Don't take shortcuts. You'll end up turning the wrong way.
Why can't we subtract poverty?
In real life, negative times negative still remains negative.
Do math teachers teach you how to solve for "unity+nations=?"
You can't calculate love. You can never use it for equations 'cos they didn't create variables to represent it. It has no equal.
If you think math is hard, take life easy. ;)
If you think life is hard, don't do math. You'll get the wrong answers. :))

Skintest
I had my skintest earlier.
It was the first time in history that I didn't cry at the sight of a needle.
It might be a sign that the world's ending.

Phone call
You know what time I slept last night? 1.30 am.
Okaaay. So it wasn't last night. It was morning already.
I slept late (considering non-summer bedtime is 10 pm) 'cos Vina called me up. We had a call conference with Deeana and Ycay. We had the looonnnnnnnnnggggggggeeeeeeeesssssssssttttttttt chat and jumped from topic to topic. It was the first time I've been in a conference call, and boy, was it fun. At 45 past 12, I told them I was sleepy (but I was, really) and said goodbye. What they didn't know was that I was still awake and listening to their conversation! HAHAHAH! But they didn't say much. They just talked about B.O.F.
BTW, why does everyone like this BOF thing? I'm the only girl I know who doesn't watch BOF and has no plans to do so.

10 years after
Okay, I've read my past blogs and I can't believe I've blogged that much. I used to blog like... 4 times a day. I can't believe I was THAT addicted to blogspot. Oh yeah, right. 'Cos everyone had blogs that time and we were all reading each other's blogs. And another reason why fewer people read my blog nowadays is that I keep on changing my link. I don't know why. I'm planning to change it again, actually. HAHA. Kidding. Well, anyway, I'd like to share a link:

Mona Lisa
This is the first time I've ever posted a song in my blog.
I like this song. :)
Mona Lisa
All-American Rejects
Here's another pity there's another chance
Try to learn a lesson but you can't.
If we can burn a city in futures and in past,
without a change our lives will never last.
Cause' we're going fast.
You can sit beside me when the world comes down, if it doesn't matter
then just turn around.
We don't need our bags and we can just leave town.
You can sit beside me when the world comes down.
What can we do better, when will we know how? A man says from a
sidewalk to a crowd.
If we can change the weather, if you want it to yourself.
If you cannot guess we all need help, yeah, I need help.
(repeat chorus)
We say
We do
The lies
The truth
All I need is next to me.
Mmmmmmmmm we're going fast.
You can sit beside me when the world comes down, if it doesn't matter
then just turn around.
You be the queen and i'll be your clown,
You can sit beside me when the world comes down.
I like this song. :)

speech
I am Carina Morente of Year III – St. Paul.
So much has been said about A(H1N1). This has been discussed for the umpteenth time and the last thing I want to do is talk about more statistics, tips, and symptoms. We have had enough of that. Today, I want to talk about the pandemic.
The mere utterance of the word “pandemic” creates fear and terror – it brings to mind images of poxes and plagues, divine wrath and curses. Actually, the World Health Organization tells us that all the term suggests is geography – the growing reach of a teeny tiny virus around the globe.
Okay, so they say it’s only a matter of geography. Well, I think it’s a little more than just that.
It bothers me that in this time of cutting edge technology and medicine, a little virus still manages to intimidate the WHO, enough to delay the declaration of a pandemic. Until the very last moment, they had difficulty accepting the extent of the spread.
The WHO warned everybody that there was a high probability that this Mexican virus would mutate into a stronger strain which led people into the state of alarm. It bothers me that people remain paranoid even if WHO’s prediction turned 180 degrees. We’ve been told that Dengue and the regular influenza viruses are deadlier than their Mexican kin. It seems to me the strain became milder instead of stronger, and it bothers me that people still continue to panic.
It bothers me that there is now a new strain of the virus in Brazil…I can almost see the little microbes evil LOL-ing and planning to rule the world. I’m sure more doomsday scenarios are playing in the minds of the panic-stricken.
It bothers me that we are running out of flu vaccines for people who really need it – the old and weak. These vaccines do not even prevent the A(H1N1) and may actually build resistance to drugs that treat the infections with this virus. There is no vaccine for the swine flu and no cure. From my understanding, it simply has to run its course.
But then, I’m not a doctor and I don’t even dream of being one. But all the things the doctors tell me don’t really help much. The statistics, the tips, and the symptoms just sound like another flu to me. So this alarm – really bothers me.

HK. :)
I arrived here from Hong Kong last night. I'm in Manila right now and I'm leaving for Roxas tomorrow morning and I'll be leaving for Iloilo when I get there. Exhausting, I know. I've got a lot of pasalubong with me and I'm pretty sure my luggage would be overweight. Good thing dad's here, too, so he could bring my err.. 6 pairs of shoes home. Or 7. Or 8. And my whole closet home, too. And my racket bag. OMG. I totally forgot I'd have to bring my notebooks with me. Oh! And the plastic wrap for my books! OHGaaad. I feel like... like... like I brought the whole house! And bought one, too! I should really get packing right now or else I'd forget to bring the more important stuff. Anyway, before packing, I'd like to share about my HK trip. It wouldn't take long, I guess. Here it goes...
I was FORCED to pack really, really light. So I packed really light and my tita had to see it. She said okay and before we left, I kinda added more stuff (HAHA). Well, a pair of sneakers and a sweater won't make a difference, right? So, yeah. Then, when we were in the airport, I ate lasagna! The end. Kidding. I haven't even started yet. Okay, so we boarded the plane and I felt like there was a pail full of excitement being splashed on me. We had lunch on the plane, and the food was sucky. It was chicken with fried rice. I hate fried rice! Especially with those gross green balls! I get goosebumps looking at them. Then when we arrived in the Airport, I felt like I was floating on air. I'm on Hong Kong. Hong Kong. Hong Kong. Then we rode the train (MTR) to Tsim Tsa Shui, where our hotel, Royal Pacific, is located. Then we checked in really fast and went out to, of course, SHOP! We (my sister and I) were each given $100, which, after going to a money changer, turned into (approximately) HK$700. I didn't spend much because I thought that was our allowance for 4 days. So I bought 1 top and 1 dress only. But I found out that was only for that day. So I shopped 'til i literally dropped. Seriously. That night, we went back to the hotel past 1 and Jo and I fell on the floor in front of the door of our room. We were so tired of walking. HAHA. The next day, we went to the magical world of Disney! I really had fun. The fireworks was so cool. Or hot. Either way. I loved riding Space Mountain even though I got scared at first and kept screaming from beginning to end. I also like the Small World ride. The dolls were so cute. I spent HK$575 in one store and HK$100 in another. So all in all, I spent HK$675. Multiply that by 7 and you'll get the peso equivalent. Or use this equation: 7x=Peso (all you have to do is substitute x with HK dollars. Do not divide both sides by 7 because you'll ruin the equation.) And it rained in Disneyland. It was also raining while we were watching the fireworks. Bummer. But I still had fun. The next day, we rode the tram. We saw the whole of Hong Kong from up there. I got really scared riding the tram 'cos I'm kinda scared of heights. But I guess it was worth it. We went to a was museum and we saw Obama, Bush, Mahatma Gandhi, Madonna, Elvis, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, The beatles, Michael Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Yao Ming, and a lot more. They all looked sooo real. My tita even got scared. Hahaha. And after that, we rode the train to Central HK and went to the night market! MORE SHOPPING! I bought 12 watches. HAHAHA. Too much for myself right? That's why I'm giving some to my friends (If I have any. Joke.) And we got really tired of walking already but we had no choice. We rode the train back and had to walk from the terminal to the hotel. It's kinda far. But then again, we had no choice. I woke up at 10 the next day. My titas left Jo and I in the hotel but allowed us to go to Esprit. So at about 11, we flew to Esprit and bought a wallet for each of us and 3 blouses, for each of us, too. But most of the clothes I bought were from Bossini. Splurggggggge. Our stuff hardly fit in our luggages. HAHA. Then we were kinda broke already so we went to the airport already and finished our money there. But I kept HK$10 'cos the HK$10 is cute. :D And so we had to say goodbye to HK. Hello again, 3rd world country. *sigh* I miss HK. I don't want to go to school. My uniforms will obviously not fit. I gained weight. A lot of weight. :|
Thank you for spending a lot of your time reading this. You just wasted a lot of minutes in your life span.:)
